Paul Dash | Career timeline

An overview of Paul’s career to date is provided below. Specific pieces of work have been highlighted, although not all are listed where multiple pieces may have been on display in certain exhibitions.

Art Exhibitions                                     

1984   Work selected for the Whitechapel Open Exhibition

1996   Paul participated in the celebration of work by six Caribbean artists in Caribbean Connection 2: Island Pulse at Islington Arts Factory – Curator Denzil Forrester

1998   Paul’s painting, Revellers Gather for Mas’ shown at the Summer Show at the Royal Academy

2000  A selection of artwork was placed in the digital archive of  AAVAA.

2014    Work shown in the New English Art Club exhibition at Mall Galleries

2015    Work shown for Mall Galleries Threadneedle Street Prize, London

2015    Participation in No Colour Bar exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery, London

2015   Work shown for the Brazilian Embassy's inaugural exhibition

2016    Work shown at Hackney Museum for Black British Arts

2016     The filmmaker Martha McAlpine made a short film of Paul at his studio working. This was shown at Hackney Museum

2016     Subject of Black History Month at Hackney Town Hall.

2017     Participated in the East London print exhibition at Mile End Pavilion Gallery

2018     Works with a focus on the refugee crisis shown at Petit Corner Café in Leytonstone

2019     First large-scale solo exhibition at 198 Gallery Brixton.

2019     Self-Portrait was shown at the Arrivants exhibition at Barbados Museum. This in celebration of the work of Kamau Brathwaite.

2020     ‘Migrants’ accepted and shown at the Summer/Winter show at the Royal Academy

2020     ‘Mas’ Pays Homage to Haiti’ shown In the NEAC exhibition at Mall Galleries

2021     Revellers Whine at ‘Mas shown at Christies in: Bold, Black British

2021-2022 Participating artist in the ground-breaking David A Bailey curated Life Between Islands – Caribbean –   British Art 1950s-Now. Tate Britain.

1946 Born Fairfield Cross Road, St Michael, Barbados

1957 Emigrated to Oxford England 

1964-1965 Foundation course at Oxford Polytechnic, now Brooke University

1965-1968 BA Chelsea School of Art

1988-1990  MA Institute of Education University of London – Passed with Distinction

2000   Listed in Jacqui MacDonald’s Portraits of Black Achievement 

2001    Goldsmiths University -  Awarded the Peake Award for Innovation and Excellence in University Teaching

2002   Windrush Award for Outstanding Achievement in Education                                          

2009 Awarded a PhD at Goldsmiths University of London. Topic African Caribbean pupils in Art Education
